My Page Photo or Drawing so to Speak

Just a wonderin whatcha all think of my picture up there. The girl happens to be me. I traced my picture from first grade, used color pencils, put us on the background of a picture Lexie colored and then cartoonized it so to speak. Ain't it fun? There is a reason for that picture, and one day very soon, those of you who don't know why will hear the reason. But for now, mum is the word. In fact, this blog is a place where I just may put the reason for the picture. Have a good one, and TTFN

4th of July

It was a hectic day. the chicken was nasty according to moi. All the wings were placed at the bottom of the box of 100 pieces. Yes, Smelissa ordered way too much. Anyway, because they were all at the bottom, the wings were mushy rather than nice and crispy. So, I ate garlic cheese bread. WooHoo!

I did get many photos, I shot bows and arrows with Nicholas, helped him and Lexie a bit with their craft items, and enjoyed seeing Sam, Mike, and little Hillary. She is smaller these days. Now that she is walking, and I mean practically running, she is slimming down a bit. I'm sure that with time, she will slim down a lot. She eats a very healthy diet since Sam and Mike do too.

Nicholas loved lavishing his attention on both Hillary and Kyle. but, because Hillary responded so well to him, she got the most. He thinks she is just adorable. he loves her little frowny mouth which makes her fit right into this family.

Hillary grabbed Kyle's little monkey---a foam craft thing---and broke one of the arms off. So, Amy made him a new one, but he let us know all about it---"Gibberish gibberish---beebee Gibberish." He added lots of inflection to his message to us. It was funny, but you really had to be there.
After the 4th, mom has seen Dr. Benson, he says she is doing well except for the atrial fibrillation which he can do nothing about (makes her a stroke risk), but she has lost some of the fluid etc. So, she doesn't need to go back to him until September.

The weather here (for the one of you who is so far away) has been unlike our normal weather for this time of year. We have not had any super hot days yet. I do like that. we've had more rain than normal with flooding south of town and flooding in Inkom. It's just been weird. But, we've hardly had to use the sprinklers yet. I hope that continues.

I have written a story, but that will be talked about more at a later time. It's a kids story, and I have submitted it---nuff said until later. Have a good one. TTFN

April Birthdays

Eric Harold Read turned 68 on April 2nd
Timothy Allen Glick turned 38 on April 6th
Melissa Anne Glick Rosas will be 35 on April 17th

Ricky Ticky is now older than dirt. I told him so. And, because I am 9 years younger, I will not reach that milestone for 9 more years. Despite how much more salt than pepper I have in my hair, I am not there. So, Ha!
I remember when Timothy was born. It was after 3 hours in the hospital labor and delivery room. He had a big head. His big head meant extra cutting for me, and a soft diet along with no getting up out of bed for the first day and night. He was a good baby. He was happy most of the time, and mellow. He grew to be called Encyclopedia Glick by siblings and friends, and he graduated high school with straight A's. And, that is after a rocky beginning with a learning disability he outgrew. Now he is a Library Specialist, and taking classes so that he can actually have the Library Science Degree. He is one smart cookie. He's beyond me.
My Timmy is a fantastic Uncle, Cortnie loves her Uncle Dude, even if he is actually her cousin. Sometimes she lets me know that she wishes Uncle Dude would come back again. His nieces but even more so his nephews think he's the greatest. He is a terrific Uncle. I'm really proud of my oldest son who has so much love to give. He is a real inspiration to me. I miss him, and wish he would come back too.

Melissa was a chubby, little cranky baby, but I was so shocked and so pleased to have a girl. Wow!!! When she got just a bit older, she loved babies. She didn't realize then that people considered her a baby too. She was always very independent, and had a strong willed mind of her own. I remember her tossing her long hair just like Miss Piggy, and telling me she didn't like somebody cause she didn't like ugly people. We had a lovely talk about what was/was not ugly.
Melissa grew up, and is now 500% better as a mom than I ever thought of being. Well, I had hoped to be a good mother, but like all parents, I made mistakes. Some of mine were doozies. Some of hers have been doozies, but she came around full circle, and is an amazingly, loving more consistent mother. Her kids are fantastic kids, and they all love her dearly. It shows. I am so amazingly proud of her too. She came a long way because of her independent, strong will I think. She had a will to be the best she could be, and she is outdoing herself there. Am I blessed with the children I have or what? I am lucky. They are all the best.

Ricky Ticky---my big brother looks a lot like our father now that he is sooooo old. He has had two wonderful wives whom I cared/care a lot about. He's smart, gifted, and he seems to love life. I hope that one day I can say---why yes, my brother has a couple of books of poetry that were published. I believe Rick writes better than our Great Grandfather did, but then that is me speaking. Everyone has their own opinions.

Anyway, these are the three birthdays for this month. and included above are a few photos of each one of them. Happy Birthday! happy Easter! Happy Spring! Lucky me! TTFN

Winter isn't Over

I put a picture of winter on Facebook. I think I will add it here too. Right now, it's snowing again. We are expected to get up to 4 inches tomorrow, and it was supposed to start tonight. It actually started at dinner time. I am sure a lot of people are cursing right now, but I'm okay with it. The longer it stays around, the longer it takes before I have to do more yard work. Have I ever mentioned the fact that I hate yard work? I doubt that anyone knows that.

Well, here are a couple of pics from the snow we had yesterday, and what is happening right now. I'm thinking of putting the Christmas tree up again. But, I need presents. Everyone send or bring me presents. OK? No? How rude! TTFN

Yard Work

Kris and I started doing the back yard spring cleanup yesterday. Last fall, because I was sick and Kris had shoulder problems we were not able to do a final mowing or any leaf raking. Hegsteds raked our front yard. Dan wanted the leaves for his farm. So, spring cleanup was a major job. Yuck! Matt and his friend Stormy came over and did the last of it for us. But, that only meant cleanup around the lilac bush, a small area in front of the fence and taking the trash can back to the front. Since cold weather and rain is returning tonight, we won't be doing any more of it till later. But, the front yard won't be too bad anyway.

I am planning to try building a new gate for the area between the two driveways. That one is about as ratty as can be, but it looks simple enough. I'll just measure, and have the wood cut to those sizes. I also want to replace the few boards that have broken off the fence, and then tackle the painting. Of course, I will wait until it gets warmer. But, I am sick of the way the fence and gate look. They shouldn't be too hard. time consuming, yes, but not difficult. But I STILL HATE YARD WORK!!!!!!

Kris may plant a couple of tomato plants this year, and will plant NOTHING! I don't have a green thumb. Instead, I tend to kill things off. But, that is quite alright with me. I don't like planting things. I don't like anything about gardening or yards. If I had the money as well as my way, the whole back yard would be a ginormous patio. Kris could put pots of flowers out. I could put fake stuff out, and life would be good. Well cared for grass looks nice and is nice to sit on. But, it takes much needed water. Our water honestly shouldn't be wasted on grass----vegetables, fruits, flowers, trees---yes. But a large yard requires way too much water to thrive. Besides, did I say that I HATE YARD WORK!!!!!

Anyway, we got some good exercise over the past two days which I am grateful for. I am not grateful for the sneezing and the swollen eyes though. It hurt my right shoulder some, but I've been taking an anti inflammatory for that, so it's still not like it was before. Kris's legs hurt, mine are fine. And, tomorrow we get to go see popcorn----I mean a movie and eat popcorn. Hooray!!!! Still, for your viewing pleasure, I am putting photos of the back up. I wish we had taken before photos so that you could see just how much we did. There are 14 very large, full bags, and two trash cans stuffed full too. So, TTFN

First Grade

The above photo is of my first grade class. (1956-1957) I no longer had this, but do now. Eric Hancock sent it to me via Internet, and I had a lovely copy made for myself. I am in the bottom row, fifth from the left. Melody Farley is in the middle row. She is the unsmiling blonde standing next to the little buck toothed boy. He is Ron Lewis, an artist and current owner of the Standrod Mansion. Anyway, for those of you who don't know, Melody was my best friend for several years. This photo has been very nostalgic for me. Not only do I like seeing myself, but all the other kids in that room. I thought Mrs. Tuescher was really, really old back then. Now, I can see that she was not quite as old as I thought. It all depends on which side of the ages one is looking.
I don't know if this photo was taken while we were still at Poky (must not have been actually)---so it was taken at Tendoy then in our brand new classroom in a brand new school. That was definitely back in the olden days...TTFN

ACE ACE ACE

I tripped over a stinkin scrapbook (not yet used). This ace fell flat. I landed on my right side and got owies-- Wah! Wah! Me mudder, Kris, Natalie, Laura, and Lexie were all here and heard the noise, but nobody came to my rescue. How unfeeling of them. Mom thought the loud bang came from the kitchen, and the rest thought a bunch of books had been knocked down or something. I just sat on the floor holding my hand and waiting for some of the initial pain to end before getting up.
Natalie found me sitting on the floor about 5 minutes or less later (she of course insists it was more like 10). I told her I was just nursing my wounds. My knee, elbow and hand hurt. My knee was fine in the end however. My fingers were bruised and swollen (two of them at least),but my elbow also ended up being fine. Later on that night I realized it had caused some problem for my shoulder though. I can't lift or use my arm real well. But then, I am also old.Joints don't work as well anyway.
Today my fingers look better and feel better, but are not healed enough for me to edit photos or anything. My arm is still not good, but oh well who gives a rat's behind?
Funny thing is, I hurt my right arm and hand. Kris and I did well grocery shopping on Friday. Her left shoulder has been bad for a while now, so between us we had the use of her right arm and my left. Two hands between us worked well if not a little more slowly. She's an old hag with old hag rotator cuff probs and I'm an old klutzy hag---a real ace. Life goes on and on.
Along with that, I begin Jury Duty tomorrow through the 13th of February. Ick, barf, Yuk! I am supposed to call this evening for instructions, but figured I could probably call this morning. I am to call again on Thursday evening to find out if the trial scheduled for Friday is still happening> How I hope they will call it off. I don't want to be on Jury duty. But, if I didn't go, I would get arrested, be charged with a misdemeanor, and face up to 300.00 in fines as well as 3 days in jail. Jury duty beats that for sure. I believe I will call and do what I am told to do.
Have a nice day, especially you Rachel. I do hope Emma doesn't cause any more floods or anything similarly terrible. But, I am certain those little mischievous gears are probably working overtime in both her little brain as well as Halle's. Between them, perhaps they can come up with some even more crazy things to do------things that will cause their mama to cry, "Why me, why me?" TTFN

NEW YEAR--BAH HUMBUG!!!!

I don't get excited at all over New Year celebrations. I never have and never will. Birthdays are better, and they aren't that special once you've had a bunch already. Perhaps my 60th birthday will be better. Then I can go to ISU and take some fun classes if I am brave.
For Christmas I got many gifts. It took me a while to open everything. I love getting presents, but I want less next year I think. I'm too greedy, and I would like to share with others who get less. I also want to enjoy it even more---the season, the music, the lights etc. I want a little of the magic back. That's what is missing I think----the magic. Or maybe the magic is the reason it's hard to let go of it. Who knows?
I know a lot of you don't like the snow and cold after Christmas ends, but it is the one thing I do like. there is nothing better than the bitter cold to make a person feel snuggly and warm in the house. That's especially true at night when it's time for bed. To snuggle down into my warm bed, but feel the cold on my face is ecstasy. I like what I like. I Wouldn't like it much if what I had to snuggle into was my sleeping bag and cardboard box. Being homeless during this time of year has got to be so sad and horrid.
Here are a few belated Christmas photos for all of you to look at. I am including one of our Christmas Day snowstorm as well. We got a whole lot more of the white stuff than was necessary, but at least it was a White Christmas. So, Happy New Year to everyone. May it go by quickly and without incidence and be Christmas 2009 in no time at all. TTFN!
